• Other Services

Kindred Hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach to care that helps our patients return to the highest quality of life possible. In addition to our core services, we offer:

An endoscope is a flexible, lighted tube that, when inserted into the digestive system, transmits images of the inside of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum, allowing the physician to carefully examine the lining of these organs. Our endoscopy team works to make you as comfortable as possible before, during and after the procedure.

    Surgical Services

Minor procedures are performed at the patient's bedside. If necessary, patients are transferred to another acute care facility for specialty procedures.

    Direct Admission

For your convenience, our hospital accepts direct admissions from extended care facilities or skilled nursing centers.

    Patient Care Conferences

Kindred's interdisciplinary approach also includes regular meetings in which the medical team and family members meet to re-evaluate the customized plan of care. These conferences promote communication and provide a regular forum in which all professionals involved in the patient's care can address questions and concerns.

    Ethics Committee

The Ethics Committee provides guidance and support when a patient, family and/or significant other need to make difficult medical decisions. The committee's goal is to review the patient's beliefs, wishes, values and other relevant factors to help determine the appropriate course of action.

    Spiritual Needs

The spiritual needs of all patients are respected and supported at our hospital. Patients, families, visitors or staff members of any religious affiliation may request pastoral care. To request spiritual services contact Case Management at (309) 680-1613.

    Discharge Planning

Once patients are ready to be discharged, the physician, nurse and other patient care team members will discuss instructions for your care after discharge. The internal case manager will assist you in making appropriate arrangements for discharge.

    Services for the Hearing Impaired

We have a resource to contact through the Case Management Department should you need a signer for the deaf or hearing impaired. Special equipment, such as an amplifier for your phone and TDD (telecommunications device for the deaf), also is available. Ask your Case Manager to assist you with these services.

    Language Interpreters

Language is no barrier. If you do not speak English fluently, do not worry. The quality of your treatment will not be affected in any way. We can make arrangements for an interpreter to communicate with our non-English speaking patients and visitors.

If you need the help of an interpreter, tell your Case Manager or caregiver. If our in- house interpreters cannot speak your language, we will obtain the services you need to enable communication with you.

    Case Management

Each person admitted to Kindred Hospital Peoria is assigned a Case Manager. The Case Manager will contact you within two to three working days after your admission to gather information regarding your resource needs and future discharge planning needs. The Case Manager will advise you of an estimate of how long you will probably be an inpatient at Kindred. If during your stay here, you would like to meet with the treatment team, the Case Manager will be glad to set up a conference. Prior to discharge, the Case Manager will help coordinate referrals to community resources, such as home healthcare, durable medical equipment, hospice, nursing homes and assisted living, to name just a few.

Radiology plays an important role in diagnosing many illnesses. Registered radiological technologists provide a variety of X-rays and diagnostic procedures, including CT scans, that are overseen by board-certified radiologists.

Our in-house laboratory is responsible for collecting specimens, performing certain tests and reporting results in a timely fashion. These results aid physicians in screening for disease, establishing and confirming diagnosis and monitoring the course of an illness and response to treatment.

Kindred Hospital Peoria runs an in-house pharmacy that provides valuable information to our physicians, nurses and other staff. They have direct access to many drug information services, including the FDA's medication error and adverse drug reaction reporting services.

    Dietary/Nutrition Support

Dietitians are on staff to meet individual nutritional needs and ensure that diets are prepared according to physician orders. In addition, dietitians will perform periodic assessments and will monitor patient nutrition plans throughout their length of stay. Patients and/or families are asked to indicate food preferences, dislikes or food allergies to the dietitian on staff.

Kindred Hospital Peoria has access to physicians specializing in, cardiology, gastroenterology, general surgery, cardiothoracic/cardiovascular surgery, hematology, infectious disease, internal medicine, nephrology/dialysis, neurology, orthopedic surgery, pain management, pathology, plastic surgery, physiatry (rehabilitation), podiatry, psychiatry, pulmonology, radiology and urology.

The nursing staff at Kindred Hospital Peoria provides high quality nursing care around the clock to meet each patient's unique needs. Registered nurses actively participate in the interdisciplinary patient care conferences along with physicians, respiratory therapists and specialists in other disciplines to design and implement the patient care plan. Licensed practical nurses and certified nursing assistants are also important components of the nursing team. This team of individuals, in addition to other caregivers that are on the nursing units, make hourly rounds to ensure that your needs are being met.

In addition, a nursing supervisor is on duty 24-hours a day to answer questions about nursing care or any other questions you may have.
